Construction of a New Chain Store by the State-Owned Corporation of Arzaq Begins

The construction of a new retail chain store has been launched by the State-Owned Corporation of Arzaq. A ceremony was held on this occasion, attended by Mawlawi Matiullah Majrooh, Director of Finance and Administration, the company’s officials and managers, as well as the project manager of the State-Owned Construction Materials Production Company.

During his speech, Mawlawi Matiullah Majrooh highlighted the importance of the project, stating that the establishment of such stores would facilitate public access to food products and create employment opportunities. He described the project as an important step toward the company’s economic development and officially inaugurated the construction work with a prayer.

Engineer Ubaidullah Karimi, Head of the Property Directorate, stated that the store is being constructed next to the gate of the company’s headquarters on an 85-square-meter plot of land. The building will initially consist of one floor and will be constructed according to standard engineering requirements, with plans to add a second floor in the future.

He further noted that the total cost of the project is estimated at 1,710,000 Afghanis, and the construction is scheduled to be completed within three and a half months by a state-owned construction company.

According to officials of the Property Directorate, the State-Owned Corporation of Arzaq previously operated dozens of chain stores across different districts of Kabul to distribute rationed goods to government employees. However, due to decades of internal conflict, most of these store buildings were destroyed.

The company now plans to gradually rebuild and reactivate its chain stores under a new operational framework in order to improve public access to goods, create job opportunities, and help regulate food prices in the markets.
